This medium-bodied Malbec is slightly lighter bodied than a typical Malbec. The cooler overall growing temperatures allowed for a longer hang time and a great flavor development at a lower than typical sugar level. Sweet raspberry and ripe cranberry aromas carry over with a hint of rosemary in the background. The red fruit flavors are prevalent on the finish.
Malbec is a varietal grown across the globe. It was made popular as a blender in classic Bordeaux blends and has gained notoriety for the high altitude vineyards in Argentina. It is a thick skinned grape that requires heavy sunlight to ripen and typically produces an inky dark wine. Our Malbec comes from Bells Echo Vineyard, owned and farmed by Ron and Lisa Sutton, located 15 minutes West of Campovida and the town of Hopland in Mendocino County. It enjoys very hot summer days in the late growing season and cool nights, perfect for the inner Mendocino Valley where Bells Echo Vineyard is located.
