Wine Profile
Harvest Notes
The 2014 harvest season was marked by a severe drought throughout California, with only some rain in spring that helped save the year. This is also considered to be the earliest harvest season in over a decade, as well as a very condensed one, with sparkling wine production beginning in July and still wine finishing by mid-October. Even with all the obstacles put in place by nature, the quality of the wines as high as the last two vintages for many of the varietals. Small berries played a big role as they brought more density and intensity of flavors to the finished wines.
Vineyard Notes
Arneis is a white grape varietal from Piedmont region of northern Italy. It’s name means “little rascal” because of how difficult it is to grow. Our Arneis comes from Spirit Canyon Vineyard, owned by Glenn McGourty and his two brothers. This one-acre sustainably farmed vineyard is located five miles north of the town of Hopland along the banks of the upper Russian River, and it provides ideal conditions for growing white Italian varietals that need a long growing season to fully develop flavors and aromas while still retaining their natural acidity.
